Need help removing steering wheel?

I have a 1990 ford probe and I need to remove the steering wheel to replace it. I took of the mounting nut and went out and bought a steering wheel removal tool. I am just confused on how you use it, I know that you have to screw the bolts in to the holes on the steering wheel. But im confused on what you do with the center bolt that you use to pop off the steering wheel. It came with a floating swivel and i have no idea on how to attach it to the center mounting nut ive tried everything. Ne ideas will be appreciated. ty
