Find local bands from the area you are from. Find reviews online about new bands. Also, use websites like Pandora.com and last.fm to find bands similar to ones you like, or new bands altogether. Usually new bands sound less generic than other bands. I never listen to the radio. Listen to a band called Algernon Cadwallader.
